Water availability is a main driver for sustainable development. Interdependencies between water and energy sectors are very strong and need to be addressed as a whole to be able to tackle resource stresses caused by climate change, commonly known the water-energy nexus. On the other hand, high electricity demand can lead to unsustainable costs of operation of water supply systems which directly affects public finance, budgets and tariffs for final consumers.
In order to accelerate the uptake of energy efficiency and enable the sustainable use of available water resources, efficient technologies and techniques should be implemented. Successful projects promoting energy efficiency actions have shown reduced energy consumption from 10 to 40 percent, with average payback periods lower than 5 years. In this webinar will be addressed the main challenges and opportunities lying ahead on energy efficiency deployment on water supply systems.
