Big Fuel Savings Available in New Trucks

A broad range of engine and vehicle technologies are now available or under development to increase the fuel efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles beyond the technologies needed to meet the existing fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards, adopted in 2011. An analysis by ACEEE and four other groups shows that, by 2025, these technologies could contribute to achieve a reduction of at least 40 percent in average new truck fuel consumption from its 2010 levels. This reduction would yield oil savings of 1.4 million barrels of oil per day in 2035, and two million barrels per day in 2040.
