Building renovation strategies under the spotlight

Past analyses by both BPIE and the Joint Research Centre concluded that there is room for improvement when drafting the next iterations of the renovation strategies. This study strengthens those findings by pointing to important shortcomings in the strategy development and implementation processes.
BPIE undertook a series of over 60 interviews with stakeholders from 12 Member States, across governmental and non-governmental actors. Questions covered a range of topics, including action on tackling barriers, legislative measures, engagement with stakeholders and introduction of financing schemes and other support measures.
The report concludes with a series of recommendations to solve the mismatch of views and build more effective strategies. Effective solutions like stakeholder forums, clearer frameworks for financing schemes and more support measures are needed to influence positively the next round of renovation strategies and create fruitful collaboration for the uptake of the European renovation potential.
