The Role of the Demand Side in the Power System

This report describes how the consultation on a new market design represents an opportunity for the European Union to embark on a course to increase the weight of demand in the power system. Traditionally considered passive users, consumer views have led to very high electricity costs for energy storage and standby power generation in a world with an increasing renewable electricity systems.
